“An Illustrated Grasslands Herbarium: documenting the flora of Transylvania’s grasslands.”

We are delighted to welcome James & Rachel de Candole, founders and factotums of the Transylvania School of botanic art & illustration in Romania.

Conscientiously grazed for 800 years, Transylvania’s pastoral landscape offers an ideal home to a great variety of flowering plants. This diversity is now threatened as grasslands are abandoned, enclosed or ploughed up.  

Working with a local botanist and 25 visiting illustrators, James and Rachel are creating a record of some 300 species of wildflowers and true grasses and will be talking about their experiences.
